Netflix Renews Focus on Gaming Division, Netflix Games

March 29, 2023

Over the years, Netflix has become the premier streaming service, amassing nearly 231 million paid subscribers worldwide going into 2023. The streaming giant has plans to grow its entertainment hub even larger with Netflix Games. Netflix originally launched its gaming division in November 2021 but has only released 55 titles since then. There is now a renewed focus on expanding its gaming portfolio.

Netflix has announced that it has 40 games slated for launch this year and has 70 in development with its partners. Netflix is working with Ustwo to bring the Monument Valley franchise to its platform. Ustwo CEO Maria Sayans confirmed that the Netflix versions of the games will not be different than the current available versions, and that they will include all paid in-app purchases. Netflix has further collaborations with Ubisoft and Super Evil Megacorp. The company also has 16 games currently being developed by its in-house game studios.

Netflix VP of External Games Leanne Loombe told reporters during a briefing that the company is primarily focused on mobile, but that it is working on its own cloud streaming technology. Loombe outlined that Netflix’s goal is to offer games that cater to all of its subscribers, and that the streaming service plans to do this by building out a selection of games that serve each of its members, whether they are regular gamers or do not game at all.
