Empowering Women in Tech: RBCx Mentor Meetups Returns for its Second Edition

Tuesday, April 16, 2024

As reported by BetaKit, Royal Bank of Canada’s technology and innovation department takes another step in championing women in tech with the launch of the second edition of their mentorship program.

Initially introduced in 2023, RBCx Mentor Meetups is a one-on-one virtual mentorship program that is aimed at providing women in tech with invaluable professional advice from RBCx mentors. While last year’s program saw over 180 women receive a total of 175 hours of mentorship from female mentors, this year, male mentors have joined the lineup, seeking to bridge the gap in mentorship opportunities.

Devon Thompson, RBCx managing director of banking, told BetaKit, “A strong tech ecosystem is built on diversity and inclusivity to foster equitable growth opportunities. Women are still underrepresented in the tech industry, and RBCx wants to pave the path for meaningful change.”

Mentees have the opportunity to register for a mentor meetup session on topics which include skill enhancement, networking strategies and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, to name a few. These sessions are available in one of three categories: (1) entry-level employees; (2) mid-career employees; and (3) tech entrepreneurs.

Sessions will run until April 30 on a first come, first serve basis depending on the available hours for each mentor. Although this edition is focused on women in Canada’s tech sector, this program is expected to be offered throughout the year, encompassing other underrepresented groups.
