Amazon Launches New Virtual Healthcare Service

ree

Amazon One Medical (“One Medical”) is launching a pay-per-visit virtual healthcare platform for children aged 2-11. This marks Amazon’s latest move to expand its presence in the healthcare sector. The service does not require insurance or a membership and can help treat a number of issues ranging from pink eye to asthma.

Amazon asserted that the service is not meant to replace standing relationships with pediatrician’s, but to serve as a convenient “in-between” for parents with time sensitive concerns who do not have timely access through a One Medical membership.

In addition, Amazon recently debuted prescription vending machines at select One Medical clinics, an initiative that started in Los Angeles. The vending machines, officially called “Amazon Pharmacy Kiosks”, provide convenient access to a range of commonly prescribed medications, including antibiotics, inhalers and treatments for high blood pressure. This initiative, together with One Medical, are part of Amazon’s broader strategy to streamline healthcare access.
